Man charged over break-ins and thefts from vehicles - Newcastle City LAC

A man has been charged over a large number of break and enter and steal from motor vehicle offences in Newcastle.

Officers attached to Newcastle City Target Action Group have been investigating a significant number of the offences which have been occurring within Newcastle City and surrounding Local Area Commands.

Following inquiries, about 10.15am yesterday (Thursday 20 April 2017), police arrested a 30-year-old man outside a home on Blackbutt Parade, Kotara South.

At this time, police seized a stolen motor cycle, and various property that was in his possession which police allege is stolen.

Officers then executed a search warrant at a home on Havelock Street, Mayfield.

At this location officers located a significant amount of allegedly stolen property, including electric tools, seven bicycles, five surf boards, large amounts of portable electronic equipment, a generator, a tent, a lawn mower, and a whipper snipper.

These items were identified as being stolen during break and enters which occurred within Newcastle City, Lake Macquarie, and Brisbane Water LACs, including Newcastle West, Broadmeadow, Islington, Kotara South, Redhead and Wyoming.

He was taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with 11 offences, including enter dwelling with intent; larceny (x3); take and drive conveyance without consent of owner; steal motor vehicle; police pursuit (Skye’s Law); receive motor vehicle part – theft; receive property – theft; possess implements to enter/drive conveyance; and never licensed person drive vehicle on road.

The pursuit offence relates to a pursuit which took place in Mayfield on Friday 7 April 2017.

He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court today (Friday 21 April 2017).
