Witnesses sought to Riverstone assault

Police are appealing for assistance to identify those responsible for the assault of a man at Riverstone overnight.

A 65-year-old man told police he was walking from the train station along Garfield Road East about 9pm (Tuesday 11 April 2017), when he was punched in the face by another man.

A short time later, he was assaulted again by the same person, who this time was with a group of five people, including at least one woman.

The man was punched and kicked repeatedly and hit with a walking stick, sustaining a large gash to his forehead, as well as a cut lip and swelling.

The injured man was taken to Riverstone Police Station where officers rendered assistance until NSW Ambulance paramedics took him to Westmead Hospital for further tests.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the assault.
