Charges over Turella stabbing

A man has been charged over the alleged stabbing of his partner in Sydney’s south three days ago.

A 25-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed multiple times in her home in Cook Street, Turella, just after midnight (Friday 7 April 2017). She was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

Police from St George Local Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

A state-wide search was initiated for a man police believed could assist with the investigation, and about 4pm today (Monday 10 April 2017), officers attached to Oxley Local Area Command arrested a 29-year-old man at a hotel in Peel Street, Tamworth.

The man was taken to Tamworth Police Station where he was charged with:

• Attempt murder (domestic violence)

• Wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (domestic violence), and,

• Break and enter dwelling and inflict grievous bodily harm (domestic violence).

These charges relate to the alleged attack last Friday.

Police have also charged the man with

• Assault occasioning actual bodily harm (domestic violence), and

• Stalk/intimidate.

These charges relate to an alleged assault on the same woman on Thursday 23 March 2017.

The man was refused bail and will appear in Tamworth Local Court tomorrow (Tuesday 11 April 2017).

The injured woman remains in hospital in a serious condition after undergoing surgery.
