Police investigate after serious assault - Lake Illawarra

Police are investigating after a serious assault in the Lake Illawarra region.

About 1.45pm (Saturday 8 April 2017), a 16-year-old boy was walking in a lane way between Beveridge Street and Tongarra Road, Albion Park, when he was approached by two unknown youths.

One of the boys allegedly hit the 16-year-old with a metal scooter to his head, before the pair fled the scene.

Emergency services were notified and the injured boy was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to Wollongong Hospital in a critical condition.

Following inquiries, police arrested a 14-year-old boy yesterday (Saturday 8 April 2017).

He was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station and will be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.

Inquiries are continuing.
