Two police officers have been assaulted during a public order incident in Sydney’s north-west overnight.
Police from Ryde Local Area Command were called to Oxford Street, Epping, about 10.20pm (Saturday 8 April 2017) after a party attended by about 200 people had been closed down due to safety concerns.
Officers commenced dispersing the attendees, many of whom were intoxicated and reluctant to leave.
One officer intervened in a scuffle between attendees and was struck to the back of the head.
Further officers from neighbouring local area commands, the Public Order and Riot Squad, Police Transport Command, Dog Unit and Highway Patrol were called to the scene and the majority of the crowd was dispersed.
A 16-year-old girl was taken to Ryde Police Station after allegedly kicking an officer, offensive language and resisting arrest. She has been released into her father’s care pending further inquiries by police.
A number of others were issued criminal infringement notices for offensive language and other offences.
The two officers who were assaulted did not require treatment.
Investigations are continuing.
