A man has been arrested and charged after a pursuit south of Sydney which reached speeds up to 200km/h.

About 10.40pm yesterday (Wednesday 5 April 2017), police attached to Mittagong Traffic and Highway Patrol detected a Holden Commodore allegedly travelling at 146km/h on the Hume Highway at Mittagong.

Police attempted to pull the vehicle over, however it failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated.

During the pursuit, the vehicle allegedly drove dangerously, reaching speeds of up to 200km/h, and using the breakdown lane to overtake other vehicles. As a result of the dangerous driving, police terminated the pursuit.

About 11pm, the vehicle was sighted travelling north on the Illawarra Highway at Sutton Forrest.

Police pulled the vehicle over and arrested the driver, a 47-year-old man from North Balgowlah.

He was taken to Bowral Police Station and charged with police pursuit (Skye’s Law), drive manner dangerous, exceed speed over 30km/h, and refuse to submit to breath analysis.

His licence was suspended.

The man failed to meet his conditional bail and was therefore kept in custody to appear at Goulburn Local Court today (Thursday 6 April 2017).
