Man injured in alleged one-punch assault - Newcastle

A man is being treated for a serious head injury after a one-punch assault outside a hotel in Newcastle.

The 23-year-old man had been ejected from the hotel Steel Street, Newcastle, about 11.25pm (Friday 24 February 2017), when a scuffle broke out on the footpath.

Police have been told the man was punched to the head and knocked to the roadway, suffering a fractured skull.

The man, from Merewether, was treated at the scene and taken to John Hunter Hospital where he is reportedly being assessed for a suspected brain injury.

Police from Newcastle City Local Area Command were alerted to the incident yesterday afternoon (Saturday 25 February 2017), and initiated inquiries.
