Two charged after copper wiring stolen near Mittagong

Two men have been charged after allegedly stealing copper wiring from a rail corridor in the Southern Highlands yesterday.

About 7pm (Thursday 23 February 2017), police from The Hume Target Action Group went to the rail corridor at Aylmerton, north of Mittagong, responding to reports of a Holden Commodore leaving the area.

A short time later, officers attended a home on Ethridge Street, Mittagong. Police searched a Holden Commodore at the location and found copper cable.

Police will allege a further 300m of copper cable was located and seized at the home.

Two men, aged 31 and 39, were arrested and taken to Bowral Police Station.

The older man was charged with larceny and enter/remain in running lines. He was refused bail to appear at Goulburn Local Court today (Friday 24 February 2017), where he was bail refused to reappear at Campbelltown Local Court today on Wednesday 1 March 2017.

The younger man was charged with larceny, enter/remain in running lines and drive whilst cancelled. He was granted conditional bail to appear at Moss Vale Court on Tuesday 4 April 2017.
