Police are appealing for witnesses following investigations into a multiple-vehicle crash on the M1 at Cowan earlier this year.

Shortly before 10pm on Wednesday 18 January 2017, police and emergency services were called to the northbound lane of the M1, south of the Hawkesbury River Bridge, after seven vehicles were involved in the crash.

It’s believed three vehicles travelling north – a Toyota MR2, a Subaru Liberty and a Mazda Tribute – were involved in the initial crash. As a consequence of that initial crash, four more vehicles – a Toyota RAV4, a Volkswagen Golf, a Mercedes Benz, and a Toyota Hilux – were also impacted.

As a result of the crash, eight adults and two children were taken to hospital with various injuries.

Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit attended and investigations into the crash are continuing.

Investigators are appealing for the driver or occupants of a white 2000 model Hyundai Elantra - which was seen travelling north on the M1 prior to the collision - to come forward, as it is believed they may have witnessed the crash and have not yet spoken to police.
