Teenager faces court after alleged assault - Tamworth

A teenage boy has been charged after an alleged assault at South Tamworth this morning.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Robert Street and Woodward Avenue about 4.45am (Saturday 25 March 2017), in response to a Triple Zero (000) call.

Police from Oxley Local Area Command arrived to find a 49-year-old man with serious head injuries; he was treated at the scene before being taken to Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital.

The man was airlifted by Westpac Rescue Helicopter to John Hunter Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

A 23-year-old man, from Westdale, and a 17-year-old youth were arrested at the scene and taken to Tamworth Police Station.

The 23-year-old man assisted police with inquiries and was later released.

The 17-year-old youth has been was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was refused bail to appear at a Children’s Court tomorrow (Monday 27 March 2017).
