Four people have been arrested following an unauthorised protest at Villawood yesterday.

About 3.30pm (Friday 25 March 2017), approximately 30 protesters assembled outside a facility on Birmingham Road.

About an hour later, the number of protestors grew to approximately 70 and began to impede vehicle traffic in and out of the facility.

Officers from Bankstown Local Area Command issued several move-on directions to protestors who allegedly ignored the orders.

Local officers supported by officers from the Bass Hill Region Enforcement Squad and the Public Order and Riot Squad formed a line across a driveway to control access to the facility and allow traffic flow.

Just before 7.30pm, several protestors allegedly attempted to break the police line.

Two men and two women were arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station.

The two women, aged 25 and 29, were later released for breaching the peace.

An 18-year-old man was charged with assault police and resist arrest. He was granted conditional bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday 12 April 2017.

A 25-year-old man was issued with a Field Court Attendance Notice for assault police and will appear at court at a later date.

One police officer suffered a minor injury during the arrests.
