A man has been charged after allegedly impersonating a police officer and indecently assaulting a teenage girl at Chatswood last weekend.

About 4pm on Sunday (19 March 2017), a 16-year-old girl passed through the ticket barriers at Chatswood Railway Station, without “tapping off”.

A short distance away she was approached by a 43-year-old man, who is an employee of Sydney Trains.

The man, who had his employment identification card visible, allegedly informed the teenager he was an undercover police officer.

The man began leading the girl towards Chatswood Police Station.

While in Victor Street, Chatswood, the man allegedly indecently assaulted the girl, causing her to cry.

He then fled the scene. Police were notified later that evening.

Following inquiries, about 2pm today (Friday 24 March 2017), police arrested the 43-year-old man at Macquarie Park Railway Station.

He was taken to Chatswood Police Station where he was charged with indecent assault and impersonate police officer. He was granted conditional bail to appear at Hornsby Local Court on Wednesday 19 April 2017.
