Body located in water - Newcastle

Police have located the body of a man in Newcastle today.

About 7pm (Sunday 19 March 2017), emergency services were called to Nobbys Beach following reports two 23-year-old men were at a rock-face near the ocean when a wave knocked the pair into the water.

One man returned to shore but the second man could not be located.

Officers from Newcastle City Local Area Command, Water Police, with the assistance of Surf Life Savers, and Volunteer Marine Rescue have been searching for the man.

Shortly before 8am today (Wednesday 22 March 2017) police located a body, believed to be that of the missing man, 1km off Newcastle Beach.

At this stage the man has not been formally identified.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
