Over 30 incidents of side mirrors and car windows being smashed were reported to police in the suburbs of Shortland, Merewether, Bar Beach, Stockton, Islington and Mayfield.
The offences are suspected to have occurred yesterday (Friday 17 March 2017), between 10pm and 6am.
It is believed the offenders were travelling around in a motor vehicle to commit these offences.
Investigators from Newcastle City Local Area Command have commenced inquiries and are obtaining CCTV footage of the incidents.
They are urging anyone with information that could assist investigators to contact Newcastle City Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Information can be given anonymously.
Newcastle City Local Area Command Duty Officer, Chief Inspector Dean Olsen said that because of the inclement weather experienced in the Newcastle area overnight, people may not have heard any noise of the incidents occurring.
“I’m urging anyone who may have seen anything or anyone suspicious in those suburbs mentioned, to come forward and contact investigators.”
“These incidents occurred across several suburbs and we believe there may be more victims affected; so my officers are very keen to find those responsible quickly” said Ch Insp Olsen.
