Fatal crash - Whittingham

Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the Hunter Valley.

About 7.40am (Thursday 16 March 2017), a westbound Hyundai Lantra and an eastbound Holden Commodore collided on Mitchell Line of Road, Whittingham.

As a result of the crash, the 63-year-old male driver of the Commodore died at the scene.

A 53-year-old woman in the front passenger seat of the Commodore received spinal injuries. A 16-year-old girl in the rear of the Commodore suffered abrasions. They were both taken to John Hunter Hospital in stable condition.

The driver of the Lantra, a 32-year-old man, suffered leg injuries and was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.

Police from Newcastle Crash Investigation Unit attended the scene and conducted inquiries.

Mitchell Line of Road was closed for about six hours during the examination of the scene.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
