Man arrested following pursuit and crash - Lakemba

A man is assisting with inquiries following an alleged pursuit and crash in Lakemba this morning.

Shortly before 10.30am (Tuesday 14 March 2017), officers from Campsie Local Area Command attempted to stop a Holden Commodore station wagon on Linda Street, Belfield.

The driver of the Commodore allegedly failed to stop, and a pursuit commenced.

A short time later, the Holden Commodore and a Mazda 3 crashed at the intersection of Punchbowl Road and Yerrick Street in Lakemba.

As a result of the crash, the driver of the Mazda 3, a man believed to be in his late teens or early 20s, was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Commodore, a man believed to be aged in his 20s, was also treated for minor injuries, before being taken to hospital where he will undergo mandatory blood and urine tests.

The driver of the Commodore is currently under police guard at hospital where he is assisting with inquiries.

Investigations into the incident continue.
