Children approached near Jesmond

Police are appealing for information as they investigate a reported child approach near Jesmond.

Police from Newcastle City Local Area Command were told four children, aged between 10 and 12, were walking home from school along Wilkinson Street about 3.10pm (Thursday 9 March 2017), when a man approached one of the boys.

Police have been told the man spoke with another child before all four became frightened and ran to a nearby church and phoned their parents.

Police have now initiated an investigation and have a description of a man they believe can assist with their inquiries.

He is described as being aged in his 30s, overweight with a dark complexion, short dark hair and a beard. At the time he was wearing black pants, a white shirt and rectangular spectacles. The man spoke with a slight accent.

Anyone who was on Wilkinson Avenue around 3pm and may have seen the man, or has information they believe can assist with this investigation, is urged to contact Newcastle Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
