Police have charged a man with a number of outstanding warrants after a car was stopped in Adamstown yesterday.

Officers from Newcastle City, Target Action Group, stopped a Maroon Holden Commodore on Glebe Street, Adamstown about 12pm yesterday (Wednesday 1 March 2017).

While speaking with the occupants of the car, officers identified a 28-year-old man from Narrabri, who was wanted on three outstanding warrants.

As officers were arresting the man, he allegedly resisted police and ran off.

Police have been told that as the man was running away from officers, he allegedly slipped and fell on a children’s water toy.

Officers arrested the man a short distance away and he was taken to Newcastle Police Station.

He was charged with a number of offences including escaping lawful custody, resisting arrest, two counts of larceny and three outstanding warrants.

The man was refused bail and will appear before Newcastle Local Court later today (Thursday 2 March 2017).
