Officers arrested the man a short distance away and he was taken to Newcastle Police Station.

He was charged with a number of offences including escaping lawful custody, resisting arrest, two counts of larceny and three outstanding warrants.

The man was refused bail and will appear before Newcastle Local Court later today (Thursday 2 March 2017).
