Man charged over alleged historic sexual assaults in Armidale

Police have charged a man following an investigation into alleged historic child sexual assaults.

Detectives from New England Local Area Command launched an investigation in December 2012 relating to a number of alleged indecent assaults committed by a man during the 1970’s.

Following extensive inquiries, about 11am yesterday (Wednesday 1 March 2017), police arrested a 69-year-old man at a house on Dumaresq Street, Armidale.

Police will allege between 1976 and 1979, a man indecently assaulted two children who were in his care.

The man was charged with three counts of indecent assault and one count of rape.

He was bail refused and will appear before Armidale Local Court today (Thursday 2 March 2017).
