Man charged after machete assault - Howlong

Police have charged a man following a serious assault in the states south.

Emergency services were called to a house on Clarke Street, Howlong, 28kms west of Albury about 12am last night (Tuesday 28 February 2017), following reports that a man had been assaulted.

Police have been told the man was woken by a knock on his front door, and when he answered it, he was allegedly assaulted by another man. During the assault the victim was struck with a machete, before the man ran away from the house.

Officers from Albury Local Area Command attended and established a crime scene which was examined by forensic officers.

Police arrested a 47-year-old man a short distance away and he was taken to Albury Police Station.

He was charged with aggravated break and enter, reckless wounding and drug supply.

The man was bail refused to appear before Albury Local Court later today (Tuesday 28 February 2017)
